About Kimberley

Kimberley officially became a city in 1944, although it has been an established settlement since the late 1800’s. Over the century, it has transformed from a booming mining town, to a largely tourism-based city, dubbing itself “the Bavarian City of the Rockies”, to the quaint and friendly city it is today; with remnants of its former mining years and European flair still intact. While Kimberley offers many typical city perks including various dining options, health and wellness services, and several arts, culture, and entertainment opportunities, other city hindrances such as overcrowding, noise, pollution, and crime are simply things you won’t encounter in Kimberley.

Another unique feature of Kimberley is how accessible the great outdoors are. A breath of fresh air is literally at your doorstep no matter where you are staying. Next to the Kimberley Conference & Athlete Training Centre is the Kimberley Alpine Resort, and in minutes you can reach vast networks of trails for hiking, biking, and skiing, or wander across the street for a round of golf at the award winning Trickle Creek Golf Course. Even in downtown Kimberley, where our urban deer frequently roam, more trails lead to beautiful gardens and parks, while at the south end of Kimberley, the Kimberley Golf Course, Bootleg Gap Golf Course, Marysville Falls, and more trails, like the 40km Kimberley-Cranbrook Rails to Trails pathway, await you. Additionally, just outside our city limits, there are many more opportunities for outdoor adventure including climbing, kayaking, or a hot spring soak.

Needless to say there is much to experience in Kimberley, whether you are looking to be thrilled, inspired, entertained, or to simply unwind.

The Kimberley Alpine Discovery Camp is ready for Campers from July 9-22!

Our unique summer camp experience makes the most of everything Kimberley has to offer.

Located at 1,200 meters above sea level, yurt accommodations are shouting distance from the village area at the Kimberley Alpine Resort in City limits, and within sight of the Kimberley Conference Centre where meals, showers, daily yoga, and rainy day activities will be offered. Our Environmental Education partners will offer expert instruction on topics such as invasive species and animal migration.

Campers are a twenty minute walk from downtown Kimberley where they’ll experience Kimberley’s history at the Underground Mining Railway, hang out at Spirit Rock Climbing Centre, and get creative with Centre 64. Also within City limits campers will explore Canada’s largest urban park, the Kimberley Nature Park, play a round of mini-putt and cool off at the Kimberley Riverside Campground.

Hanging out in traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation, you will learn about the region’s First Nations from neighbors at the ʔAQ’AM community. As well, you will discover what life was like in the region’s first European settlement at Fort Steele Heritage Town.

    • 3 Day Camp: $350 per camper
    • 6 Day Camp: $599 per camper
